“Seeing the police target peaceful protesters and continue the very violence that is being protested got me thinking of this song. It is famously about Stanley Milgram’s experiments in the 60’s around obedience to authority. All it took was to teach the subject to listen to authority and then to depersonalize the “enemy” being harmed for seemingly normal people to (seemingly) inflict terrible harm. Maybe that is what is happening in the police force in America today.
I recently bought a Yamaha CP-80, which is the big brother of the Yamaha CP-70. It is an acoustic-electric piano that Peter used throughout the 70’s and 80’s and on into the 90’s on the Secret World Live tour. In this recording, I am running the CP-80 through a Boss CE-2W in CE-1 mode with both knobs set to center to emulate the Boss CE-1 chorus that Peter often ran his piano through live and in the studio.
