Peter’s song swap project and orchestral albums Scratch My Back, And I’ll Scratch Yours and New Blood are now all available to stream on Spotify and Amazon Music.

Included in these releases are Peter’s versions of ‘The Book of Love’ and ‘Heroes’ as well as re-workings of some of his own music from ‘Solsbury Hill’ to ‘Signal to Noise’, whilst the likes of Arcade Fire, Brian Eno, Randy Newman, Lou Reed and David Byrne all deliver their own interpretations of Peter’s songs.

On Friday of last week we received the sad news of the death of Geoffrey Oryema. Geoffrey had a long association with Real World and WOMAD and performed alongside Peter many times throughout the years.

Geoffrey was one of the original artists on our label and one of the most loved.

It feels as if we have lost one of our original family members and although Geoffrey went his own way in recent years we always felt he was a Real World artist.

Real World Records has just launched a brand new website. We’ve been mining the archives to create a dynamic, colourful environment for visitors to engage with almost thirty years of releases.

There is a different story to tell about every album we’ve released on the label and every artist that we’ve worked with. We plan to tell them all in time! There is a wealth of photo and video footage that you will have never seen before and plenty more still to be added to the new website. It’s definitely going to be a place you’ll want to visit again and again.

As you might have seen in our last mailer, we’re celebrating the 40th anniversary of Peter’s second solo album with this vintage-style t-shirt. Only available to order until this Sunday 1 July.

There’s just one month to go to the 36th WOMAD Festival in the UK where you can see performances from Amadou & Mariam, Leftfield, Gilles Peterson, Omar Souleyman, Goldie, Django Django, Camille, Thievery Corporation and Sharon Shannon amongst many more, in what Peter has called a “fantastic bill”. Alongside the music there are 200 free workshops, a wide array of talks, the WOMAD spa and fabulous food!
