From petergabriel.com

Having always loved the combination of film and music (aged 17 he gave up a place at film school to pursue a career in music) Peter Gabriel’s first opportunity to really marry these twin interests came when he was asked to create the music for Alan Parker’s film Birdy in 1985.

Further film work, including his music for Martin Scorsese’s The Last Temptation of Christ (that became the album Passion)…

and the soundtrack to Philip Noyce’s film Rabbit-Proof Fence (released as the album Long Walk Home), has continued to feed that interest.

“I have always loved film and any chance I have been offered to work with good film projects and good directors I have jumped at. This is a mixture of songs that have been written for specific films, and existing songs that found an appropriate place in a story. Consequently, there is a mix of different styles and moods.” – Peter Gabriel

Alongside those longer soundtrack commissions Peter Gabriel has also regularly contributed songs to a diverse range of movies and Rated PG explores this other connection forged by Peter between his music and film.

Rated PG is an opportunity to bring together in one place, for the first time, a selection of songs written especially for, or used to notable effect in, movies and includes new and previously unreleased versions, otherwise unavailable songs and a brand new track.

For Records Store Day 2019, the album is a single LP picture disc in a die-cut sleeve. Numbered and limited edition.

“Pennsylvania Flickhouse” by pre-Genesis band Anon is now available online – BUY

Richard Macphail, Mike Rutherford, Anthony Phillips, in the pre-Genesis band Anon. The song “Pennsylvania Flickhouse” is now available for download.

Buy now:

‘Pennsylvania Flickhouse’, written by Anthony Phillips, is the only recording  and the only original song the band ever made.

“After the tragic and untimely death of Rivers Job in 1979, the passing of Mike Colman now leaves only four of the six full Anon members alive. He was undoubtedly the most prodigiously gifted of us all – a music scholar, highly adept at both piano and violin, he just sort of took up the guitar and played it without any seeming effort!

Thankfully at this stage known as Mick (hence avoiding any confusion with Mike Rutherford, the man he briefly replaced!), he fitted in very quickly and contributed some wonderful touches to the group – in particular his magnificent tremolo-wielding solo on the outro of the sadly-lost Brian Roberts recording of ”Pennsylvania Flickhouse” (immeasurably better than the weak, feeble, anodyne version recorded at a ‘proper’ studio sometime later).

We became good friends, both sitting at the back in the ‘jokers’ class of chemistry & maths (inveterately useless at both) with maverick characters such as the legendary Philip Darwall Smith who was brazen and bold enough to go up to the b.odourly-challenged master, Mr X, spray him with Right Guard and get away with it!”

Anthony Phillips, from anthonyphillips.co.uk

The band:

  • Rivers Jobe – bass guitar (May 1965 – July 1966; died 1979)
  • Richard Macphail – lead vocals (May 1965 – Spring 1966, Spring 1966 – July 1966)
  • Anthony Phillips – lead guitar (May 1965 – December 1966)
  • Rob Tyrrell – drums (May 1965 – December 1966)
  • Mike Rutherford – rhythm guitar (May 1965 – Spring 1966, Spring 1966 – December 1966), lead vocals (Spring 1966, July 1966 – December 1966)
  • Mike Colman – rhythm guitar (Spring 1966; died 2010)

Ed Ecco il comunicato di petergabriel.com:

In 2002 and 2003, following the release of the album Up, Peter Gabriel went on the road with his Growing Up tour, once again collaborating with production designer Robert Lepage to create a spectacular and theatrical live experience. The tour took in thirty-two cities across the USA, Canada and Europe with this concert film, directed by Hamish Hamilton, being shot over two nights at the FilaForum in Milan in May 2003 with Peter Gabriel and the band performing “in the round” at the centre of the arena. Filmed in high definition, this was originally released on DVD in 2003 but never on Blu-ray. The DVD is now being reissued and the concert is being released on Blu-ray for the first time.

Still Growing Up Live & Unwrapped is taken from the Still Growing Up tour of 2004, which took Peter Gabriel and his band into smaller and more intimate venues in contrast to the large arenas chronicled in the Growing Up Live film. Award-winning director Hamish Hamilton reunites with Peter Gabriel for this concert film. The Unwrapped film sees Anna Gabriel take over the director’s chair with the collaboration of Hamish Hamilton. A simpler approach suggested a different set list and Peter, Hamish and Anna were determined that this should be filmed in a very different style. It shows Peter Gabriel as many of his fans love to see him, just playing the music. Filmed in standard definition only.
