This set is made even more special by the inclusion of a 5.1 Surround Sound mix of album on a DVD (NTSC / Region Free). After a seven year absence of new recorded work, “Strings Of Light” is a welcome return and a fine album by a legendary musician.

‘Pennsylvania Flickhouse’, written by Anthony Phillips, is the only recording and the only original song the band ever made.

“After the tragic and untimely death of Rivers Job in 1979, the passing of Mike Colman now leaves only four of the six full Anon members alive. He was undoubtedly the most prodigiously gifted of us all – a music scholar, highly adept at both piano and violin, he just sort of took up the guitar and played it without any seeming effort!

Thankfully at this stage known as Mick (hence avoiding any confusion with Mike Rutherford, the man he briefly replaced!), he fitted in very quickly and contributed some wonderful touches to the group – in particular his magnificent tremolo-wielding solo on the outro of the sadly-lost Brian Roberts recording of ”Pennsylvania Flickhouse” (immeasurably better than the weak, feeble, anodyne version recorded at a ‘proper’ studio sometime later).

We became good friends, both sitting at the back in the ‘jokers’ class of chemistry & maths (inveterately useless at both) with maverick characters such as the legendary Philip Darwall Smith who was brazen and bold enough to go up to the b.odourly-challenged master, Mr X, spray him with Right Guard and get away with it!”

La serie di concerti ha toccato la Russia, l’Ungheria, la Bulgaria e la Serbia in ordine cronologico.

Lo spettacolo comprendeva i classici di Djabe, le composizioni di Steve Hackett (The Steppes, Last Train To Istanbul, Ace Of Wands, ecc.) e brani strumentali dei Genesis (Horizons, Firth Of Fifth, In That Quiet Earth, Los Endos).

Una delle registrazioni più emozionanti dell’album è la canzone “Last Train to Istanbul” di Steve Hackett, “Out of the Tunnel’s Mouth”, mai eseguita dal vivo, neanche con la sua stessa band.

“Seconds Out (GUARDA QUI TUTTE LE OFFERTE SU AMAZON)” è il secondo album dal vivo dei Genesis.

E’ un doppio album costituito per gran parte di registrazioni tratte da concerti tenuti dai Genesis presso il Palais des Sports di Parigi dall’11 al 14 giugno 1977, nel corso della tournée europea di “Wind & Wuthering” (vedi sotto i video).

Fa eccezione il brano “The Cinema Show”, tratto dal concerto al Pavillon de Paris il 23 giugno 1976, durante il tour in di “A Trick of the Tail“, con Bill Bruford alla batteria.

Selling England By The Pound è stato pubblicato in edizione limitata su CD (formato gatefold digifile) il 13 ottobre 2023, esattamente 50 anni dopo l’uscita del capolavoro originale dei Genesis.

La tracklist originale di Selling England By The Pound è reinterpretata con passione, accuratezza e rispetto, sottolineando tutte le sfumature nascoste della musica dei Genesis: Dancing With The Moonlit Knight, I Know What I Like (In Your Wardrobe), Firth Of Fifth, The Cinema Show, After The Ordeal sono completamente orchestrate, mentre The Battle Of Epping Forest, More Fool Me e Aisle Of Plenty sono arrangiate per pianoforte, Fender Rhodes, organo Hammond, Mellotron, sintetizzatore ARP Pro-Soloist e chitarre acustiche.

Questo è il secondo tributo di Gazzara a un particolare album dei Genesis, pubblicato a 50 anni esatti dall’uscita originale: il primo è stato Foxtrot, uscito il 6 ottobre 2022. Anche il doppio LP/CD Play Me My Song e Here It Comes Again (CD) sono ancora disponibili su Amazon, vedi sotto.

Il 13 ottobre 1973 la leggendaria rock band Genesis pubblicava il suo capolavoro Selling England By The Pound. Cinquant’anni dopo, l’eredità di questo album sulla musica moderna è ancora enorme e la versione strumentale per pianoforte/orchestrale di Francesco Gazzara è solo un umile tributo a tanta bella musica scritta da Tony Banks, Phil Collins, Peter Gabriel, Steve Hackett e Mike Rutherford.

Dopo i fortunati tributi pianistico-orchestrali Play Me My Song (2013) e Here It Comes Again (2020), apprezzati anche da alcuni componenti originali dei Genesis, il tastierista e compositore ha pubblicato “Foxtrot“(release digitale su label IRMA Records – SCOPRI DI PIU’ QUI), che ha compiuto 50 anni il 6 ottobre 2022.

Sono inclusi i brani già presenti nei primi due tributi di Gazzara – “Watcher Of The Skies”, “Time Table” e l’intera suite “Supper’s Ready” preceduta da “Horizons” – ai quali si aggiungono ora anche “Get’Em Out By Friday” e “Can-Utility And The Coastliners” in due nuovi arrangiamenti con le consuete sonorità acustiche e vintage del tastierista romano (pianoforte e organo Hammond).

L’eredità di questo album sulla musica moderna è ancora enorme e Gazzara plays Genesis instrumental piano/orchestral version è un umile tributo a tanta bella musica scritta da Tony Banks, Phil Collins, Peter Gabriel, Steve Hackett e Mike Rutherford.
