“Richard Spaven is proud to present brand new studio album ‘Real Time’.
Richard’s unique subtle take on drumming and the way “he plays like a wild flower grows” (Mary Anne Hobbs /6 Music Recommends), has made him a sought-after performer with successful global artists and at Drum events and festivals around the world.
Following on from his critically acclaimed 2017 release ‘The Self’, Richard is back with a special studio album.
Recorded live during a week at Real World Studios in the Bath countryside, ‘Real Time’ captures the artfulness of a band of musicians creating something truly unique. Richard’s long history with his band was an inspiration during the writing of this record.
His collaboration with vocalist Jordan Rakei is continued – exceeding expectations after a week-long residential recording session. In addition is co-writer and long standing band member Stuart McCallum (Cinematic Orchestra, The Breath) on guitars.
The recordings also feature Robin Mullarkey (Jacob Collier) on bass, and Oli Rockberger (Laura Mvula) on keys.
Notable for their diverse production skills, Frederic Robinson (Medschool) and Jameszoo (Brainfeeder) join Richard on Real Time. The inclusion of their intricate sound design and warped distorted abstract sees that the music on Real Time is elevated to new levels.Throughout the 9 tracks of the album, Richard on drums plays artfully with the beats, subtlety abounds yet grooving hard in constantly shifting, unexpected turns of rhythmic layers.
The result is modern sounding electronica from a group of exquisitely talented forward-thinking musicians who are not bound by any genres but thrive in the simple idea of creating and playing together.”

Following the tremendous success of 2017’s ‘The Night Siren’ (charted at #22 in Germany, #28 in the UK), legendary former Genesis guitarist Steve Hackett announces the release of his new studio album ‘At The Edge Of Light’ on the 25th January 2019. The album which features ten songs, sees Steve unite a vast amount of styles ranging from guitar driven rock to epic orchestration, from world music to the reflective and atmospheric all brought together in Steve Hackett’s unique style.
Steve says: “In these dangerous times, deep shadows feel even sharper than usual and we find ourselves standing at the edge of light… The contrast between dark and light weaves its way throughout the album in many ways, from the sense of good fighting evil through to the interplay of dark and light opposites magically combining in cultures, including the heartbeat of India and primal tribal rhythms. Ultimately, this album embraces the need for all musical forms and cultures to connect and celebrate the wonder of unity in this divided world.”

Steve Hackett has established himself as one of Rock music’s finest and recognisable guitarists through his time with the legendary Genesis who he joined in 1971 and a solo career following his departure from Genesis in 1977 and is a hugely influential guitarist particularly in the Progressive Rock genre. ‘At The Edge Of Light’ will be Hackett’s 26th studio album in a solo career that began in 1975 with the release of his debut solo album Voyage Of The Acolyte.
‘At The Edge Of Light’ was mainly recorded in Steve’s own studio but also around the world. The album features international artists, including Durga and Loreley of Pink Floyd vocal fame with drummers Nick D’Virgilio and Simon Phillips from USA, Sheema on sitar from India, Icelandic drummer/percussionist Gulli Briem, tar player Malik Mansurov and Swedish bass player Jonas Reingold… This album also features Paul Stillwell on didgeridoo, Rob Townsend on sax, bass clarinet and duduk, Amanda Lehmann on vocals, John Hackett on flute, drummer Gary O’Toole, Roger King and Ben Fenner on keyboards, Dick Driver on double bass, violinist and viola player Christine Townsend… All magically honed and engineered by Roger King.

“Il nuovo numero di Dusk si concentra sui cofanetti di queste ultime settimane – ci spiega Giammetti -. In copertina, quello dedicato alle collaborazioni di Phil Collins, che ha annunciato il suo ritorno in Italia a ben 15 anni dall’ultima volta (Milano 2004). Nel box Plays Well With Others, come è noto, possiamo ammirare il grande batterista (ma anche raffinato cantante) che Collins è stato soprattutto negli anni 70 e 80, quando ha prestato le sue bacchette ad artisti diversissimi tra loro, dimostrando la sua straordinaria versatilità”.
“Un anniversario importante è costituito invece dal trentennale di Living Years, secondo album di Mike + The Mechanics che ebbe un incredibile successo grazie all’omonimo singolo (numero 1 in America, numero 2 in Gran Bretagna). Per festeggiare, Rutherford ha pubblicato un bellissimo box con 2 vinili e altrettanti cd (la versione rimasterizzata del disco del 1988 più un live del periodo) e, in più, un libro di 40 pagine. Nel numero 90 di Dusk rileggiamo quel disco con gli occhi critici di oggi, oltre che recensire il box set”.
“Il terzo cofanetto – continua Giammetti – è dedicato a Steve Hackett. Broken Skies Outspread Wings è costituito addirittura da 8 dischi, in pratica i suoi album di studio dal 1984 al 2006, più il video Somewhere In South America e alcune rarità. Anche questo box è arricchito da un libro fotografico. Nel nostro speciale andiamo però oltre: ci facciamo raccontare da Steve quei dischi e soprattutto il più antico, Till We Have Faces, l’unico pubblicato prima della nascita della nostra rivista e, quindi, mai esaminato così a fondo. Schede tecniche di tutti gli album completano il servizio”.
“A Hackett è dedicata anche una gustosa anteprima: At The Edge Of Light, il suo 27° album, uscirà solo il prossimo 25 gennaio, ma noi lo abbiamo già ascoltato e ne parliamo diffusamente“.
“Infine la consueta finestra live, in questo caso tutta estera: recensiamo infatti il doppio concerto-celebrazione dei 50 anni di età di Ray Wilson tenuto in Polonia a settembre, la prima data del Not Dead Yet tour di Collins in America (Ft. Lauderdale 5 ottobre) e infine il concerto di Steve Hackett al Palladium di Londra dell’11 ottobre scorso, che ha chiuso il suo breve tour con l’orchestra”.
“Stampa tipografica in 68 pagine con un sedicesimo a colori (oltre che la copertina) – conclude il Direttore Mario Giammetti -, Dusk chiude con questo numero il suo 28° anno di vita e si appresta, pieno di idee come non mai, a proseguire questa fantastica avventura grazie al sostegno dato dagli associati”.
