14 classici di Anthony Phillips rielaborati da 14 musicisti provenienti dalla Germania, in un’unione virtuale chiamata The Ant Band, e con il contributo di Steve Hackett, autore di uno splendido assolo di chitarra a F Sharp (la prima versione di The Musical Box).

Il primissimo “Missing Links” è stato pubblicato in edizione limitata nel 1989 e, sebbene i quattro volumi originali della serie siano stati successivamente pubblicati su CD, non sono più disponibili da alcuni anni, ma scambiati tra i collezionisti:
La sua popolarità portò ad altre tre edizioni di “Missing Links”, che raccoglievano non solo composizioni di colonne sonore, ma anche altre rare registrazioni d’archivio realizzate da Anthony Phillips nel corso degli anni.

Originariamente pubblicato nel maggio 1995, l’album presentava i momenti salienti di una performance solista dal vivo di Anthony, registrata il 21 marzo 1993 nell’ambito della Living Room Concert Series per il programma radiofonico statunitense Echoes, quotidiano di musica strumentale contemporanea.

Lo spettacolo è stato trasmesso su 120 stazioni radio pubbliche in America il 25 giugno 1993.
Per l’esecuzione Anthony ha selezionato una serie di pezzi per chitarra acustica e pianoforte, attingendo principalmente a brani originariamente pubblicati sugli album The Geese and The Ghost, Private Parts and Pieces e A Catch at The Tables, insieme a due pezzi del New England, l’ottavo volume della serie Private Parts & Pieces e una versione solista a 12 corde del primo movimento di un Guitar Quintet da lui composto nel 1976, che era stato successivamente inciso con parti per archi e strumenti a fiato, Conversation Piece.
Non disponibile su CD da molti anni, The Living Room Concert è stato ri-masterizzato e ampliato per includere tre brani inediti registrati per la trasmissione originale, Jaunty Roads, Let Us Now Make Love e Lucy: An Illusion.

“Non potevi scegliere momento migliore!”, esclama Anthony Phillips rispondendo al telefono. “Ho appena tolto la bustina del tè dalla teiera e mi sono bagnato le unghie con l’olio d’oliva: sono tutto per te”.
Sono le parole con cui inizia l’incontro telefonico traMike Burnes di Prog Italia ed Anthony Phillips.
L’intervista finirà con lo svelare il perché Ant si bagna le unghie con l’olio d’oliva, ma racconta anche dettagli sul recente album Strings Of Light in cui è possibile ascoltare i ventiquattro brani in versione 5.1 Surround. “Magari si tratta di una scelta un po’ bizzarra, dato che nella maggior parte dei pezzi c’è solo una chitarra che suona, ma in un paio di punti dove ci sono varie chitarre a dodici corde ci siamo divertiti a inserire degli effetti e dei cross-fades, in modo da conferire al tutto una spazialità differente”, spiega Phillips.
E rivelanuovi aneddoti sugli anni con i Genesis.
Per esempio alcuni momenti compositivi con Mike Rutherford: “Quando eseguivamo accordi diversi simultaneamente, come un Re maggiore e un Mi minore, usciva fuori un insieme di note da brividi. Potevano essere accordi, ma anche arpeggi, parti ritmiche, rivolti… non è che volessimo essere stravaganti a tutti i costi, stavamo solo cercando di sperimentare e capire cosa potessimo tirare fuori senza copiare nessuno. Andavamo alla cieca, senza precluderci nessuna possibilità”.
Ant racconta anche la sua passione per le chitarre; è riuscito ad accumulare infatti quasi 100 pezzi. C’è la chitarra classica Francisco Simplicio fabbricata a Barcellona nel 1931. “Mi ritengo fortunato a possedere un cimelio del genere. La sua età rivela si col suono così caldo e rotondo. Indubbiamente la possibilità di utilizzare questo tipo di strumenti aggiunge un fa- scino particolare alle composizioni”, rivela nell’intervista.
E possiede un vecchio è un mandolino italiano, costruito da Antonio Vinaccia addirittura nel 1789, di cui dice: “Mi piacerebbe conoscere la sua storia. Era il periodo della rivoluzione francese in cui iniziavano a rotolare un po’ di teste, chissà a quali brutti spettacoli ha assistito. Peccato che non possa raccontarceli”.

The first ever live performance of the solo music of Anthony Phillips and Mike Rutherford composed in the 1970s, will be performed live on the Trading Boundaries stage.
The evenings, endorsed by both Anthony Phillips and Mike Rutherford, has Rocking Horse Music Club from the USA returning to Trading Boundaries to showcase the music of Anthony Phillips with additional songs from Mike Rutherford’s first solo album ‘Smallcreep’s Day’ with Noel McCalla, who provided original vocals on the album, joining them on stage.
Working directly with Anthony Phillips, Rocking Horse Music Club has lovingly curated a selection of songs primarily from his first three solo albums, The Geese & the Ghost, Wise After the Event, and Sides.
This will be the first time this music will be performed live by a full band – LAST TICKETS
Rocking Horse Music Club includes Coombes (keyboards/vocals), Eric Wagley (drums), Brenden Harisiades (bass), Myron Kibbee (guitars), Mike McAdam (guitars), Patrik Gochez (vocals/piano/guitar), and Justin Cohn (vocals/guitar).

Coombes and his team have worked with world class artists including Anthony Phillips (Genesis), Ian McDonald (King Crimson), Chris Difford (Squeeze), Vernon Reid (Living Colour), Greg Hawkes (the Cars), Kenwood Dennard (Brand X), Garth Hudson (the Band), Dave Mattacks (Fairport Convention), Nick Magnus (Steve Hackett), Jonathan Mover (GTR), Dale Newman (Genesis associate), Kate St John (Dream Academy), and many others.
Rocking Horse Music Club has recently received two Best Song nominations from the Independent Music Awards for its song, Everywhere is Home, which features London’s Sing Gospel choir. The song has received airplay on BBC Radio 2 and London Live, as well as regional BBC and independent radio in the UK. The band toured the UK in support of its debut album in September 2018, including an appearance on BBC Radio Kent and a well-received performance here at Trading Boundaries.

From his days as a 15 year old playing support to The Shadows at a pub gig to appearing as lead singer with headliners on most of Europe’s biggest stages with Mezzoforte and Manfred Mann’s Earth Band, Noel McCalla has consistently stood out from the crowd.
As singer with Sniff’n the Tears, Moon and McCalla and a long association with the brilliant Morrisey/Mullen Band, and was vocalist on Mike Rutherford’s Smallcreep’s Day – he was considered as the replacement for Genesis singer and frontman Peter Gabriel after he left the group in 1975.
Noel has deservedly earned acclaim as “One of Britain’s best Soul Singers” (Blues and Soul magazine) while his appearances as vocalist with “Some Kinda Wonderful” show jointly led by award winning saxophonist Derek Nash, have highlighted his all-round abilities and accomplishments as a lead vocalist – “a confident, graceful and dynamic singer” (Independent on Sunday).

‘Pennsylvania Flickhouse’, written by Anthony Phillips, is the only recording and the only original song the band ever made.
“After the tragic and untimely death of Rivers Job in 1979, the passing of Mike Colman now leaves only four of the six full Anon members alive. He was undoubtedly the most prodigiously gifted of us all – a music scholar, highly adept at both piano and violin, he just sort of took up the guitar and played it without any seeming effort!
Thankfully at this stage known as Mick (hence avoiding any confusion with Mike Rutherford, the man he briefly replaced!), he fitted in very quickly and contributed some wonderful touches to the group – in particular his magnificent tremolo-wielding solo on the outro of the sadly-lost Brian Roberts recording of ”Pennsylvania Flickhouse” (immeasurably better than the weak, feeble, anodyne version recorded at a ‘proper’ studio sometime later).
We became good friends, both sitting at the back in the ‘jokers’ class of chemistry & maths (inveterately useless at both) with maverick characters such as the legendary Philip Darwall Smith who was brazen and bold enough to go up to the b.odourly-challenged master, Mr X, spray him with Right Guard and get away with it!”
